What NOT to do before you Boudoir Experience

If you're planning a boudoir photoshoot, there are some things you should avoid doing in the lead-up to the session. Things that can easily be avoided for you to get the best from your session. And although my booked clients get a more in depth guide prior to their session, here are some things you should not do before a boudoir photoshoot:

Sunburn & bad tan lines - aren’t that sexy ;)

You can see in this behind the scenes photo and finished product that clients generally looked more tanned in the end photo.

what not to do before boudoir session

New hair colour/styles on the lead up should be avoided to avoid regret.

  1. Don't get sunburnt: Everyone knows that we have harsh sun here in Australia. So it is best to avoid extended time in the sun for the weeks leading up to your session. Not only is sunburn a nightmare when it comes to editing, peeling skin isn’t a sexy look ;) So being out in the sun for a few weeks on the lead up is NOT recommended to avoid any accidental burnings which can easily happen here in Perth.

  2. Tanning: While a little bit of colour can be nice, you don't want to overdo it with tanning or spray tans. Unfortunately, tan lines are not easily removable in post-processing so it’s best to avoid the sun all together leading up to the shoot. And fake tanning has a very fine line because when they’re not done well, they can often leave clients looking orange. Everyones skin is different so just because your friend uses a person doesn’t mean your tan will look the same on your skin. So for someone who isn’t a seasoned tanner; they can easily go horrible wrong. Plus, my editing adds warmth to your images so even those who are regular tanners I always suggest going much lighter than you usually would. It also needs to be done days in advance so it doesn’t come off on our furniture, it needs to be looked after well so isn’t patchy for your photos. So that may sound a little daunting so when in doubt - avoid tanning all together.

  3. Don't overexert yourself: Avoid intense workouts or anything that might leave you feeling sore or tired on the day of your shoot. You want to be relaxed and comfortable during the session and having DOM’s is not fun when tackling some of the poses. So stick to less intense workouts on the lead up.

  4. Don't try new beauty treatments or hair styling/colours. Avoid trying any new beauty treatments like facials, chemical peels, or waxing right before your shoot. It's best to give yourself a few days to recover in case of any adverse reactions. This is the same as hair colour and styling. It is recommended that you have a refresh of colour a week or so prior to your session, however going for a new colour or drastic haircut can see you having regrets when it comes to your session.

  5. Don’t eat a large meal prior to your shoot; OR skip breakfast: As you will be posing which can be like a mini workout in itself, I always recommend that my clients make sure they eat a meal prior to their session. This is to make sure you have enough fuel for your body to get you through. And in the same breath, It’s hard to strike a pose when you’re bloated and uncomfortable. So it’s best to avoid heavy foods that you know make you feel that way. A light balanced meal with protein is the best pre-session meal.

  6. Don't stress: Finally, don't stress too much about the shoot. Remember, this is supposed to be a fun and empowering experience. Just relax, be yourself, and enjoy the moment! Don’t worry about posing because we are here as professionals to guide you through the entire session. Instead, focus on having fun and celebrating yourself!

Cannot wait to see you in front of my camera one day soon!
